fiddle lessons

As a teacher, AJ likes to focus on technique, tone, regional fiddle styles, and practice strategies. He has been teaching private lessons for 12+ years and enjoys supporting students with old-time and bluegrass fiddle, and fiddle technique in general. While he can play and teach a variety of old time fiddle styles, he has a particularly deep knowledge of Missouri Valley, Illinois, and other midwestern fiddle repertoire and styles and enjoys sharing that with students. AJ teaches both virtually or in person from the Twin Cities, and likes to meet students where they are at - if that’s regular lessons or just an infusion every so often to dig into certain topics.

workshops & camps

Past teaching engagements include Festival of American Fiddle Tunes, American Fiddle Method Camp, Augusta Heritage Center, Folklore Village, Minnesota State Fiddlers Association, Kaufman Kamp, Swannanoa Gathering, Ashokan Center, and others. Topics have included intermediate and advanced old time fiddle, midwestern fiddle tunes, Bb fiddle tunes, fiddle tone and technique, twin fiddling/harmony, ensemble classes, and more. As a teacher he is known for clear explanations and pacing that pushes just enough but not too much. Have somewhere you’d like AJ to teach? Reach out here.
